Paris is grey most of the time. But the buildings are mostly a light beige color. When the sun is out the light is brilliant white. It’s very different from the soft yellow Tuscan light.

When I first moved to Paris I never noticed the flowers on the balconies. Coming from Florence, Italy everything looked grey to me in the city of lights. It was January 2007.

When I lived in Tuscany we went hunting for these mushrooms. We found all kinds of other mushrooms but only once I found a porcino.

Macarons were invented by two nuns who began making them to pay for their housing. The original recipe is said to have come from Venice where these types of cookies were made. Macarons evolved in the 1930’s becaming two cookies with a filling. You can read about it here.
